THE FABLE “DOGS”
Іn the village, the master lived with two dogs. Somehow a stranger had to drive past the gate. One dog jumped out, barked until the man was out of sight, and returned to the yard.
– What do you get out of it? – asked the second.
– “In any case, it’s not so boring,” he answered.
– “But not all the travelers,” said the wise man, “are such as to be regarded as enemies of our master.” If it were so, I would not have neglected my duty, I would have barked, even though my leg, damaged by the wolf’s teeth, has been bothering me since last night. Being a dog is a good thing, but lying to everyone in vain is bad.
